Hello, I'm Tilde van Uytven
graphic designer & painter based in Antwerp, Belgium.
Tilde Van Uytven graduated M.A. at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in Graphic Design. She worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator from 1980 till 1997 for numerous companies and cultural institutions, For 11 years she designed weekly small posters for a newsreel on the Belgian television broadcasting company VRT. They have been exhibited in numerous shows. A selection out of the over 600 posters was published in a book 'Panorama getekend', edited in 1991.
With the posters, designed from 1980-'89 for the Royal Youth Theatre of Antwerp, she was selected in 1982 and 1986 at the International Biennial for graphic design in Brno (former Czechoslovakia).
In 1990 she became professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Artesis Hogeschool) and at Sint Lucas (Karel de Grote Hogeschool), both university colleges in Antwerp, teaching illustration and drawing (formerly also graphic design, reproduction techniques and painting). In 2009 she was guest lecturer in the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. She was the curator of the exhibition ‘A Day In A Life’ in 2010 and of ‘De Kringwinkelcollectie’ in 2012.
In 1993 the Europalia Nippon Kinen committee selected her for a four-months sojourn in Japan on a personal project to investigate about graphic design, illustration and high-quality offset print. She visited several companies and artists in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, Osaka University of Arts and held a lecture and exhibition in Osaka for the Designers Association.
Her creative work evolved towards fine arts and in 2004 she attempted an education in Painting at Sint-Lukas University College in Brussels, resulting in a M.A. graduation in 2007.
In 2011 she was invited by The Hermitage, Florida, USA, as artist in residence.
Her graphic work and paintings have been on show in numerous group and solo exhibitions since 1982.
Since 1983 she regularly travelled to South East Asia, Japan, the USA and New Zealand. She lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.
